The same figures for everyone

A smart view of the road

A focused approach to road safety starts with objective figures. BLIQ translates complex accident and speed data into an accessible report that shows a region's trend and points of attention at a glance. The list of the most dangerous junctions and road sections shows where to act first.

The content is deliberately kept simple, with short texts, definitions and explanations, so that everyone interprets the figures the same way. This keeps road safety on the agenda for municipalities, regions and the police, and ensures everyone works from the same information — the basis for a shared, risk-driven approach, as the Safe System approach asks.

BLIQ in figures

On behalf of STAR, BLIQ is offered free to every road authority and police unit in the Netherlands.

Two sources, one complete picture

BLIQ combines the two most important sources for road safety: accident data from the STAR Database and speed data from Floating Car Data provider HERE.

The report shows the number of casualties by age and mode of transport, how that develops over recent years, the risk of speeding and the list of the most dangerous junctions and road sections. Who is involved, and when and where does it happen?

The two sources behind BLIQ

Accidents
Updated per reportNational coverage

Where accidents happen, who is involved and how the number of casualties develops over the years.

Data source

The data comes from the STAR Database, which makes police records of traffic accidents available for road safety analysis.

Speeds
Updated per reportNational coverage

Actual speed behaviour on the road network: where speeding is structural and how large that risk is.

Data source

The data comes from HERE, a provider of Floating Car Data (FCD) based on millions of anonymous vehicle movements per day.

Ready to forward

Road authorities and the police download the ready-made report in a single click. The report is immediately suitable to forward to the alderman, the council, the provincial executive or to colleagues — no editing required.

The basic report is available for every municipality and police zone. The regional report is published nationally and per region or province, with a benchmark that reveals the safety position of each municipality.

From priority to analysis

BLIQ is more than a report: it is the launch point for in-depth analysis. Its graphs and maps connect seamlessly to the VIA Software, where points of attention can be explored further with filters, detailed information and daily-updated figures. There you find the cause, choose the measure and later use a before/after report to see whether it works.

Using the CROSS method, BLIQ crosses the accident score of a junction or route with its speed score to explain why a location is unsafe. The most dangerous locations are interactive and link through to the public CROSS speed map on bliq.report, which is freely accessible to everyone.
